Rabih Mroué (1967), born in Beirut (Lebanon) and currently living and working in Berlin, is a theatre director, actor, visual artist and dramatist. Although his career began in theatre, his work also covers video and installations based on images and texts. As a representative of political and documentary theatre, he often draws from real life events, critically reflecting on the political and social situation in his home country as well as the issue of media wars and manipulations. In his multimedia “lectures performances”, Rabih combines film, theatre and visual art in a truly innovative way. He often cooperates with his compatriot Lina Majdalanie – a renowned performer and artist.

He works as a director at Münchner Kammerspiele (Munich) where he has directed productions such as Rima Kamel (2017), Ode to Joy (2015), RPM and a Few Seconds (2012), The Pixelated Revolution (2012) or Riding on a Cloud (2013), which he prepared together with his brother Yasser and which was performed in Prague.

The number of prestigious galleries and exhibitions where Mroué's work has been shown and performed indicates the great renown that he enjoys all around the world: Museum of Modern Art (New York, 2015), SALT Galata and SALT Beyo?lu (Istanbul, 2014), CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (Madrid, 2012–2013), dOCUMENTA (13) (Kassel, Germany, 2012), Centre Pompidou (Paris, 2007) and many others.

He works as a contributing editor to the NY magazine The Drama Review/TDR focused on performance in its broader context. He is co-founder of the Beirut Art Center (BAC) and has worked at The International Research Center: Interweaving Performance Cultures at Freie Universität in Berlin.
