Dancers, performers and choreographers Teresa Vittucci and Doris Uhlich are among the personalities who are committed to an authentic image of the body in dance. They bring “normal” bodies to the stage instead of standardized ones. Bodies that contradict society's idea of classic, beautiful “dance bodies”. Instead of perfection, they accentuate diversity, otherness, which is conveyed in their works by, among others, disabled, naked or not quite thin individuals…

OTHERNESS as the new norm?

Different – diversity – distinctiveness… You can certainly think of other synonyms and associations connected to this year’s Flora Theatre Festival motto. “Otherness” can be understood not only as a variability of our existence –thematised by the diverse work of the current drama and performance scene – but it can also be perceived as the exclusivity of choreographic, dance and acting personalities, this year with an emphasis on women creators whose works resonate strongly across the international artistic spectrum.

26th Flora in 100 days!

The 26th Flora Theatre Festival will take place from 11 to 22 May and will present sixty events from Czech and foreign provenance. This year's motto, which will resonate both in the topics of the productions and in their stage form, is:
ANDERSSEIN / OTHERNESS.

The festival will also focus on the work of prominent female personalities – authors, performers, theatre-makers…

Schauspielhaus Bochum is Theatre of the Year!

In a prestigious poll of forty-five critics of Theater heute, the most influential and widely read professional magazine dedicated to German-language theatre, the theatre from Bochum has won. In May they presented their monodrama Noise. The Sound of the Crowd at the Flora Theatre festival starring the breath-taking Gina Haller!

25th Flora is over…

The international Flora Theatre festival culminated this weekend with a dance double bill comprising of a solo by Slovak dancer Eva Urbanová The Essence and the open-air version of the local dance production of the year Treatment of Remembering by the POCKetArt group. The 25^th edition of the festival had a motto New World 2.022 and was organized in the May dates again after three years.
We would like to thank all participants, as well as audiences, guests and supporters who help make Flora what it really is – a meeting place.

It Won’t Be Like This Forever

“At a certain point during the rehearsal process, I asked Daniel to just jump all the movement material that we collected and copied from the internet. And this is how this dance originated,” shared choreograph Moritz Ostruschnjak at the discussion after the Tanzanweisungen (It won’t be like this forever) and uncovered their own creative method.
Canadian dancer Daniel Conant was captured performing the Bavarian folk dance Schuhplattler or ballet grand jeté by Lukáš Horký and Ondřej Hruška.

The duo Jenna Jalonen and Beatrix Simkó have finally showed their dance performance Long time no see! this year (after several postponements) within the Flora Theatre Festival programme. The production focuses on differences and similarities between two cultures and nationalities. Finnish and Hungarian dancers confront their national identities, approach them with irony and detached view which helps them understand it better. Jenna Jalonen described to us the creative process of the show in an interview as well as the importance of nationality in the current world.
